The Yellowstone River had its first major spike of the season, and peaked (for now) at about 13,000 CFS in Livingston yesterday. It has dropped to about 10,000 CFS today. With some colder weather forecasted this weekend, flows are predicted to continue to drop. If this happens, giddy up. If the river starts to gain some clarity again we could have a small window of great fishing, but we’ll have to see what happens here this weekend. Greenish water color= good to go. Stonefly nymphs, prince nymphs, and squirmy worm/ DNA worms would be good to try, as well as streamers.
SPRING CREEKS:
We were on Depuys the other day and saw fish sporadically feeding on Midges in the morning, and transitioned to Blue Wings in the early afternoon. Oddly enough, our best fly was a tiny, black, foam cylinder ant on top. The creeks fished well and we were one of the only two small groups fishing there…. Great option for this time of year when other rivers are muddy, the creeks will always be running gin clear.

LAKES:
We have been getting great reports from our guys out fishing local lakes recently. Anglers can expect to find Chironomid and Callibaetis hatches this time of year. A black leach, with one of those bugs underneath is a great rig to try on any Stillwater this month. Also the BLOB!
Please stop by the shop for more intel and some pretty awesome locally tied patterns!
