HATCH FINDERS FLY SHOP

While growing up in Michigan, I had plenty of water to practice my angling skills.  The Pere Marquette, Au Sable, and Jordan rivers were favorites and Lake Michigan could always be counted on for Salmon in the fall.  At the age of fourteen, my father gave me his Orvis bamboo fly rod and it=s been fishing with flies ever since.  In 1979, I  moved west to Utah and spent the next twenty years fishing not only Utah=s famous Green and Provo rivers but also as far south as Lee=s Ferry in Arizona and as far north as Montana.  It was during this time that I ventured into the world of salt water fly fishing as well. When I first moved out west, I took a fly fishing class.  This class put all the pieces together for me and allowed me to take a great leap in my skill level.  As a result, I wanted to share the importance of classes, especially for women who often find it difficult to acquire enough skills to fish independently.  For four years, I teamed up with Western Rivers Flyfisher in Salt Lake City  which offered some great instructional trips for women.

Now my family and I live in Livingston, Montana.  I am surrounded by two mountain ranges with the longest of  the free flowing rivers, the Yellowstone, cutting through the valley floor. With the abundance of  rivers, ponds, wildlife and that famous big sky; fly fishing couldn't  be better.  Once down by the rivers edge, I pull up a log or a rock and have a seat.  I observe my surroundings.  Are there bugs in the air?  Are there fish rising?  Which direction is the wind coming from? Eventually, I set up my rod - I am not in a hurry.  The fish may take what I present, they may not, it=s ok.   It is not just the fish I=m after.  I take pleasure in nature, spending time with a friend or being alone.  In the Yellowstone valley you may see Eagles, Osprey, Geese, River Otter, Badgers or Mink - what a gift!

But, sometimes the focus is on the fishing.  Especially when there is a hatch and the fish are rising, heart rates do go up.  Please join me in my programs and learn or improve your fly fishing skills. Whether in a class or during private instruction, students can challenge themselves at their own level  in a non- threatening and motivating atmosphere.  Instruction can be for women or coed.  Click on programs for a listing of the 2001 instructional season.
